How to Submit Fanfiction

GUIDELINES

Your story must be identified as Fanfic and credit must be given to the Series about which it is written.

Each story must focus on a regular character.

Please include a proper disclaimer noting you do not own the characters. You do, however, own any characters that you create.

Keep the characters in character at all times.

Before submitting a story to the Site, said story must be complete. You may suggest that a story be posted in parts or sections, but please do not submit a story in an incomplete state.

It must have been beta-read and proper credit must be given to your Beta Reader.  Additionally, you must include a way for me to contact your Beta Reader.  (Acknowledgements and thank-you’s are appropriate and will gladly be posted.)

ABOVE ALL, remember that Fanfic is for fun.  Be creative.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

SLASH!  Please do not submit stories involving slash situations or plots for characters who were never written as homosexuals or lesbians. Correspondingly, please do not re-write copyrighted homosexual or lesbian characters as heterosexual.

It is our opinion that this is a direct encroachment on the rights and artistic integrity of the writers who created them and it is our feeling that if we, as writers, albeit hobbyists or professionals, cannot appreciate the desire of an author to have his or her character remain true to the creative vision within which they were created, then we may need to go back and rethink our calling.

In good conscience, we cannot, we will not post any Fanfiction story that crosses this boundry.

REWRITES:  We will consider a re-written episode, as long as the original episode is acknowledged and a note of respect to the episode writer is posted at the top of the story. Additionally, a missing scene (or scenes) for an episode will also be accepted as long as you follow all other guidelines, most specifically that which provides for credit and respect to the episode writer.

HOW TO SEND YOUR SUBMISSIONS

PERTINENT INFORMATION

Part One

1. Submissions should be sent in a WORD document, as an email attachment  to:  Submissions@newprose.org and, although it is redundant, please include the word “SUBMISSION” in the subject line.

2. Challenge responses are subject to the same guidelines. Please type "CHALLENGE RESPONSE" in the subject line and identify the challenge to which you are responding.

Part Two

On all submissions, please include the following in the order in which they are outlined:

1. The date of submission to the Site.

2. The title.

3. Your name, exactly as you wish to receive credit for your story.

4. Your Editor or Beta Reader’s name, exactly as he/she wishes to receive credit.

5. A summary of your work. Short description of the idea or plot, including details on whether or not it is part of a series, or a prequel/sequel to something else that you have written.

If it is a Re-Write (RW), a What Happened Next (WHN), or a Missing Scene (MS), please identify it as such and include all pertinent information about the episode, most specifically, the Title and the Writer. (FYI: Including the Director and the original airdate would put you at the top of my most considerate Fanfic writers’ list!)

PLEASE NOTE:

We are not set up to receive hard copy submissions at this time. We are currently using Word 2000, which will read most formats. If you send a plain text format, you may lose any special characters that are in your work. If you have any questions about the mechanics of sending your submission, please email us, BEFORE you attempt to send it. This will save us all a lot of time and unnecessary angst.

ADDITIONALLY, if you already have your work set up on the Web, and you wish for us to create a link in our Library Index, we shall be most happy to accommodate you.

LASTLY, every effort will be made to read and post your works in a timely manner, or give you feedback as to our reasoning on why we are returning it/them to you.

Thank you for reading this page and we look forward to receiving your Fanfic submissions.
